It wouldn't because the brain glutamate neurotransmitter system is completely separated from your blood glutamate level. Check Glutamine / Glutamate cycle

If the MSG could freely penetrate the blood brain barrier then it would cause a general seizures - typical sign of the whole brain glutamate system stimulation.

Not necessarily. It would have to be fairly large doses to cause Seizures, besides, our Brain GABA's role is to protect against that! Therefore, it is only in "susceptible individuals" that this occurs...hence that term in the literature being used very often.

It could be other things involved though that cause Seizures, serotonin can provoke seizures in HIGH (but not moderate) amounts in some cases, hence the warnings on the labels for the SSRI's.

Glutamate ( especially NMDAr hypofunction ) is the neurotransmiter most widely connected to emotional blunitng ( the real emotional blunting like in Negative Symptoms of Schizophrenia not the anhedonia from depression) and it's AMPA / NMDA receptor are the key to any neuroplasticity (LTP, LTD, synapse strength) happening in the emotional system but also in the whole brain.

I found this study to be interesting. I feel like it's a piece of the puzzle into understanding SSRI induced emotional blunting.
