Informed consent

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone here knew about any of the risks before taking an SSRI. My psychiatrist talked up the benefits of SSRIs and did not mention a single risk before asking for my consent. Sexual dysfunction (not even talking about PSSD here) while on SSRIs is a common side effect and one of the main reasons for noncompliance.

Is it common for psychiatrists to push people into taking meds without mentioning any of the risks? Is there any recourse? For example, reporting the psychiatrist to the state medical board for misconduct?

Thanks.

They are not required to inform a patient of potential side effects.

They are not required to report a patient's side effects to a regulatory agency.

The most you can do is try to file a lawsuit against them, but I am not aware of this ever being successful.

There were numerous threads on this topic, sorry to be blund but it is a useless discussion.
Doctors are allowed to perscribe this medication and it helps many people, we were statistically very unlucky.
My advice, try to focus your energy on a possible solution instead. The medical world is not our enemy, even if it put us in a very tough situation.
