Zoloft .. help me to understand

Unread postby ItalianJob » Tue Nov 13, 2018 9:24 am

hello friends. Is sare to return to use zoloft if I had already used it in the past? I suffer from general anxiety and panic attacks and I can not leave the university now that I am the last year (study medicine, since next year I would do psychiatry and im interesting to study about this disorder). In the country where I live now there are avaible tianeptine and buspirone, but I read very discordant opinions that these two drugs work for anxiety. Three years ago I had taken zoloft 100 mg for a year and a half, had given me sexual disorders but just stopped taking it was back to normal after about a month .. please help me .. And apologize for my english...

Doesnt seem you had pssd if everything returned to normal.
Asking if ssri’s are safe is a valid question, but to the wrong people. Generally they are safe, but we are the proof they are not in all cases.
My advice, try medication other than ssri first but if you need to take it to function, you should.
Buspar is an anti anxiety with less sexual side effects (but still possible). Other things to try like sports, meditation or some medicinal herbs can help but might not be enough for everyone.
Zoloft seems to be one of the ssri’s with the most sexual side effects btw. Augmenting ssri could be an alternative (so ssri + mirtazapine or buspar or wellbutrin)

Yes , I know I didn't have pssd. But my questions are: 1) if I used Zoloft in past , it will be safe to use it again for me? Many people here have pssd at first use of antidepressant? 2) it's really very rare condition to have pssd?

Hi After I developed PSSD, from just 50mg doses of Sertraline (same thing as Zoloft I believe) I looked back through my medical notes and see I briefly took Sertraline in the past but must have discontinued because of negative effects... Sickness, headache feeling spaced out etc (but no sexual sides). I think this must have kindled me and made me sensitive to further exposure to Sertraline. I would seriously advise against you taking Zoloft again.... I have never taken an antidepressant yet that has eased my depression.
I know it's difficult when you are down so low not to be tempted, but please consider alternatives. I benefited greatly from CBT.
Male
PSSD after 3 days on Sertraline (50mg) (Aurobindo) December 2016 to date.
Tinnitus, insomnia (1.5 hours/night sleep) poor memory/cognition as a bonus!
Possibly PSSD from October 1998...just didn't realise what I was suffering from! (pre internet)

Italiano?

I have PSSD becuase of zoloft. Even if you didn't get it the first time, you could still get it the second, in fact I believe many people with PSSD were fine after the first time. I would seriously recommend taking a medication other than an SSRI.
