Pregnenelone and DHEA

Unread postby Juvo » Mon Apr 24, 2017 12:55 pm

Is someone interested in trialing this at 50mg Pregnenelone, 5mg DHEA for 30 days?

Just a thought that came over me. If the Km of 3a-HSD is decreased while on certain SSRIs, perhaps it has become downregulated post-SSRI. Leaving you in a allo-deficient state. This wouldn't explain why some of us have elevated progesterone. Perhaps PROG is elevated because of inefficient metabolism via its enzyme.

Anyways, this would theoretically be a safe trial.

I want to bump this, and also go on record saying that taking DHEA might be a good idea. Doing so increases Testosterone and DHT.

DHEA metabolism to the neurosteroid androsterone: a possible mechanism of DHEA’s antidepressant action

Rivka Ben Dor et al.

"In a previous
study, the adrenal androgen DHEA, a precursor of the
neurosteroid androsterone, produced antidepressant and
libido-enhancing effects in patients with midlife depression."

"DHEA has a potential role in the mitigation of stress and
the promotion of resilience in humans (Russo et al. 2012).
Several clinical trials also have demonstrated positive effects
of DHEA therapy under placebo-controlled conditions on
mood symptoms in depressive disorders (Maninger et al.
2009), sexual function (Bloch et al. 2013), and well-being
(Bloch et al. 2012)."

"In a previous randomized controlled trial of men and women
with midlife-onset depression, we observed that treatment
with the adrenal androgen DHEA enhances mood and sexual
functioning"

In theory though, wouldn't supplementing Test and or DHT directly have he same effect (which I can personally attest doesn't completely fix the problem) rather than taking a precursor to each?
My Endos are always interested in DHEA but if you look at the steroid tree image (google) it doesn't serve much purpose after the primary sex steroids. I confess I don't however know a lot about it.

Hormones are far more complex. I think it depends on what you want to accomplish...supplementing test is different than DHT...somw Test gets aromatized. DHT doesnt.

I don't know much about pregnenelone but it's used for adrenal fatigue, which sounds somewhat similar to pssd. It is also converted by the body to estrogen and testosterone. Sounds like it massively changes your hormonal system, but with pssd that could be really good or really bad.

Preg is the "mother hormone" ans is the starting point for many hormones after cholesterol. In my opinion, if it is what is needed here, you would probably need to take it for a while to find out. Personally, I'd buy the 10mg pills and start with that, after reading up on it of course. Then slowly increase the dosage and gauge effects
