Another little discovery that i came across, some of the success stories posted on licorice may actually hold some weight... Licorice inhibits the breakdown of cortisol, so there will be a large increase in cortisol in the bloodstread following long term use.
http://www.researchgate.net/publication ... _receptors
Dorsal raphe glucocorticoid receptors activation by corticosterone may therefore lead to an increased signalling of 5-HT1A autoreceptors that may become counteracted by galanin receptor activation. Glucocorticoids, by enhancing dorsal raphe 5-HT1A autoreceptor function, may therefore cause reduced 5-HT neuronal activity
I tried licorice root and couldn't last past 5 days because of it's effects on me, but i am going to try it again at some point and try brave past it to the 3 month+ mark where hopefully the changes @ presynaptic autoreceptors will be enough to notice the difference. Others success stories can't all be baloney!
