My psychiatrist acknowledges the condition

Unread postby raven100 » Wed Jan 04, 2017 3:18 pm

He said that it was rare, but that it happens, and that the odds of it happening increase if your initial condition was anxiety and if you cold turkey.

He wants me to start on a low dose of Mirtazapine, which I'm not going to do because I've seen some short windows and I don't want to lose any progress that I've made. I asked him what the odds were of recovering naturally, and he gave me a very vague 'rule of thirds,' (33% chance I stay the same, 33% chance I get worse, 33% I get better).

I'm seeing another psychiatrist to see if he prescribes the same thing this Friday, is there anything anyone wants me to ask him?
PSSD Since March 2016 after 4 weeks on Sertraline
Conditioned worsened and peaked in April, since then possibly seen a 20% improvement
Would be useful for data collection if people could add their histories in their signature

Whoa, I've never seen even one professional acknowledge PSSD! I would love to ask that guy all kinds of questions, like: How do you know about PSSD? How many people have you seen with it? Does your protocol make them better? How do you feel about the theories on it? Why Mirtazapine? ect.

If you go to see another psychiatrist and tell him you have PSSD, I am almost certain he will just think you're a loon. Anyway, keep us posted and good luck!

Bring him the study published until now and ask to report your case to the Pharmacovigilance Agency

Thanks for the update. It's encouraging to know that there are some psychiatrists, however few, that acknowledge the condition.

I identify with what you've posted because I have anxiety and have quit SSRIs cold turkey. Makes no sense to do that now, but when naive and ignorant of the potential consequences, it wasn't a big deal.

The only thing I can think of to ask about is about treatment.

What can one do to try to alleviate this condition? Exercise? Reinstatement (whether standard dosing or micro-dosing) and slow tapering of a SSRI? Supplements? Something else?

Any advice, even if generalised and non-specific, would be useful.

Let us know how it goes.

Cheers

There was a point where I went off of an SSRI cold turkey but I didn't develop PSSD from it. I got it from when I started taking Citalopram and I'm pretty sure that I didn't go off of it cold turkey. But who knows?
