Ginkgo with St. Johns Wort together?

Unread postby Trazohell » Tue Feb 20, 2018 10:34 am

Hello,

can I combine Ginko with St. Johns Wort?
As you know Ginko protect for Stress-induced 5-HT1A receptor desensitization, but St. Johns Wort upregulate this.
My thoughts are with combination can you counter more desensitization of 5HT1A, but also upregulate them. On the paper it must be a cure for some people with PSSD.
My PSSD is better with St. Johns Wort, if I set it up even better, but my mood goes down again.
So I want to continue with it until the spring, but I'm frightend for more desensitization of 5HT1A.

regards
June 2015 - April 2016 Fluoxetine
April 2016 - March 2017 Fluvoxamine
December 2017 9 days Trazodone
After Trazodone PSSD: loss of libido & spontaneous/night/morning erections, prostate/pelvic pain, numbness in scrotum, low sperm count, Anhedonia

No Answer?
My thought is that Ginkgo can save my 5-HT1A receptor for more desensitization, so that St. Johns Wort can't destroy more.

What makes you so convinced 1a is destroyed? That's a theory. We have plenty of theories. Until then, it's all speculation. Let's say ginkgo protects 1a downregulation, well that's good and all but we still have no clue if it helps those with PSSD

From Wikipedia:

Sertraline does not have significant affinity for the norepinephrine transporter (NET) or the serotonin, dopamine, adrenergic, histamine, or acetylcholine receptors.[104][94] On the other hand, it does show high affinity for the dopamine transporter (DAT) and the sigma σ1 receptor (but not the σ2 receptor).[95][105] However, its affinities for these sites are around 100-fold or more lower than for the SERT.

I got PSSD from sertraline and it doesn't even touch 5-HT1A

no direct affinity but via serotonin uptake inhibition there is much more serotionin in synaptic cleft... agonism the autoreceptor.
